Even in death, the legend of Popcorn Sutton continues to grow.
The mountains' most famous moonshiner took his own life in March, just days before he was due to report to federal prison.
He was laid to rest in the Harmon Den area of Haywood County, next to the graves of his mother and father.
In a strange twist, someone dug up Sutton's grave last week and removed his remains.
News 13 received several emails from people concerned someone had stolen them.
We talked to Popcorn's widow, Pam Sutton, today. She confirmed his remains had indeed been moved to Tennesee.
Pam says Popcorn's gravesite had been vandalized several times since March.
She even filed a report with the Haywood County Sheriff's Office in August.
She decided to remove his remains before vandals got to them.

Maggie Valley residents say the move goes against Popcorn's wishes, and
think his widow should have left Popcorn's grave where it was.
Pam Sutton says she'll reveal his new burial location next month.
That's when a public memorial service is planned for Popcorn Sutton.
It'll be held October 24th at one p.m. The service will take place at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Newport, Tennessee.

Life is strange, and will always be. We had that weeks worth of ran that just ended yesterday. We've got severe flooding in some areas, BUT our rain deficit is in the plus.

It is weird that I thought that but that is what I thought instantly! They might steal his corpse or bones. I bet she puts him in a Mausoleum or a Private Cemetery when she tells all about where in Tennessee!
