Brawlers face felony charges
Seven individuals are facing felony charges resulting from a riotous
fiasco that occurred last week at a home on Richland Street.
For reasons unknown to police at this time, about 40 individuals
became involved in a violent brawl that left seven hospitalized
suffering among other injuries knife stab wounds and blunt force trauma
inflicted by aluminum baseball bats, brass knuckles and wooden fence
pickets.
The following individuals have been charged with felony
first-degree burglary: Timothy Dale Cagle, 33, Waynesville; Dakota Dale
Gaskill, 18, Waynesville; Anthony Scott Eckhoff, 19, Clyde; Steven Dale
Smith, 23, Canton; Travis Dale Marler, 31, Waynesville; Shannon DeWayne
Williams, 32, Waynesville and William Gaskill, 33, Clyde.
Marler and William Gaskill also face one count each of assault with
a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Smith has also been charged
with assault.
Williams and William Gaskill remain confined in the Haywood County Jail. All others have been released on bond.
Additional charges against these and other individuals are pending, authorities said.
Police reports relating to the July 7 incident read similar to a script from the Jerry Springer show.
According to witnesses, shortly after 10 p.m., at least two pick up
trucks transporting as many as 10 to 15 individuals each pulled up to a
residence at 276 Richland St., police records state. The individuals
jumped from the bed of the trucks carrying what appeared to be sticks
and poles. While some subjects surrounded the house, others kicked in
the front door, forcing their way into the home where a brawl ensued,
later spilling out into the street in front of the home.
Pursuant to 911 calls, one officer arrived on scene around 10:24
p.m. to find numerous subjects in the roadway and one pick up truck
crashing into the side of another pick up.
When other officers arrived a short time later, numerous subjects
were still in the street shouting. One individual, bleeding from his
face, was yelling from the home's front porch, while another male
subject lay in the street appearing unconscious, records state.
Several sticks with blood were located throughout the outside area
of the home, and a ball bat and two knives were collected by police
from the yard. Witnesses told police some other subjects were beat in
the head and face with fists, baseball bats and brass knuckles, records
state.
Officers secured the scene using pepper spray, Waynesville Police
Chief Bill Hollingsed said. Seven were arrested that night and
transported to the Haywood County Jail. Others fled the scene and seven
were transported to Haywood Regional Medical Center to be treated for
injuries — "everything from cuts and abrasions to stab wounds and blunt
force trauma and lots of stitches," said Hollingsed.
At least three were later transported to Mission Memorial
Hospitals. Most have since been released. One victim remains
hospitalized and is being treated for serious injuries caused by knife
stab wounds and blunt force trauma to his head.
"At this time, we have charged everyone we could, who has been
identified," said Hollingsed. "We have filed felony charges against
those who broke into and entered the house, and some who attacked the
residents."
As far as the other dozens of individuals who may have been
involved in the street fight, Hollingsed said, there will be additional
charges filed.
"We will pursue affray charges against those who fled, who we are able to identify," he said.
At least three of the suspects in question have violent criminal histories.
Hollingsed said at this time authorities are uncertain what caused the fight.
"It's been a long standing feud between the individuals involved,
and we've heard everything about what precipitated the fight from it
being a fight over a dog, to it being a fight over a woman," he said.
"We've heard several different stories. So, we really don't know what
the catalyst was that started it."
If you type in WLOS NEWS 13, there is a small search
box on the left side of the page, and up at the top. There
you will see injustice as I've stated above, every stinking
offender is out and about, after committing this terrible
act upon my family. The first call to 911 came in about
10;10 pm and the cops sent ONE FRIGGEN cruiser to
handle 32 people that arrined at my sons home. MIND
you they showed up to KILL, as there were 30 weapons
taken from the offenders.

Praying that each one of them gets what they deserve...

I have the feeling they ALL will return to prison. YES prison, each of the 7 individuals have had their runs through the prison system for the same crime and worse. We will know on Sept. 3 if they will indited to the Grand Jury.
It's been hard for my family, always looking over their shoulders every time they go out, because everyone of them are now out of jail. Their bonds weren't set high enough to keep them behind bars. It's disgusting.
I really wanted to help Reba out, because both her family and mine need to get help from the outside. I did get on the news, only to let people know this was not a brawl, it was a home invasion, and they came to kill. I don't care what anyone says, my daughter is still having nightmares, and she is the only one who doesn't leave the house. She's too terrified.
It's been, to say the least, terrifying. As I said before, I wasn't going to post this incident, as some things are private, BUT I really wanted to help Reba, because we have made contact with someone who is helping, an outsider, so to speak.
Oh well, Live and Learn.
We are as safe as *WE* can make ourselves. We have had every cell phone as well as land line phones tapped. Now we didn't know of this, til someone at my house had made a phone call on the land line phone inquiring about obtaining a gun or two. My oldest son got a phone call on his cell phone by the Detective who is working on the case that he heard the conversations about guns. So we don't say too much on the phones. We go to court the first week of Sept. to see if these thugs will be indited to the Grand Jury. We are supposed to have *major* security, I sure hope so. Thanks for your comments.
Glad you dropped by. Everyone is alright physically, but mentally there's problems. My 18 year old daughter is still having nightmares and is now in counseling. We are a strong family and will get through this and any other crap that this world dishes out. I have gotten the news to come from Asheville to do a story and report on the incident. The local newspaper has also have been following this. Thanks for dropping by, and I hope you and cowboy have a good week.
Maybe your daughter can stay with some other family or friends for awhile so she can calm down.
You'll all be in my prayers.
Thank you, we are just living our lives as normal as we can. One thing though, we always are looking over are shoulders to see who is around us at ALL times. Again thanks for your prayers, we need them desperately.
We have taken necessary measures to protect ourselves, but the constant looking over our shoulders really gets to be ridiculous. Thanks for your kind words and prayers.
I just finally had time to play a bit of catch up on my reading. OMG!! that is horrible. I will be praying for your whole family.
BIG HUGS!!!

We have talked about the attack on your sons and daughter and you know your family is in my prayers. I hope the police get these thugs back off the street soon and keep them locked up. It's a shame these thugs were let out, now days the criminals have more rights then their victims.

Everyone is alright physically but mentally, now that's a different story. But we are a *VERY* strong family and we will get through this too. Thanks for the prayers, they always seem to help.
Against my better judgement, I posted this. I *only* posted to let someone know that there is someone that can be contacted on the outside of the situation. I think you know what I mean. I've had no response, so screw 'em.
