John Denver - Rocky Mountain High

He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Comin' home to a place he'd never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door

When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
On the road and hangin' by a song
But the string's already broken and he doesn't really care
It keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long

But the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
The shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullabye
Rocky mountain high

He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below
He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept his memory

Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams
Seeking grace in every step he takes
His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand
The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake

And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
You can talk to God and listen to the casual reply
Rocky mountain high

Now his life is full of wonder but his heart still knows some fear
Of a simple thing he cannot comprehend
Why they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more
More people, more scars upon the land

And the Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
I know he'd be a poorer man if he never saw an eagle fly
Rocky mountain high

It's Colorado rocky mountain high
I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky
Friends around the campfire and everybody's high
Rocky mountain high

I like John Denver's music. My favorite of his is the song about his grandmother's feather bed.

Desari,
Nice to see you, I think John Denver had a lot of good songs. I am partial to Rocky Mountain high because we lived in Estes Park CO. which is the gateway to the Rockies. Everything in the song is so very true, as well as thought provoking, if you really listen/read the words. Have a good eve.

Cracker,
So nice to see you! I will tell him that would asked about him, I talk to him alot. He is not responding very well. I am leaving here in about an hour to go and stay the night with him. I got 2 hours of sleep this time, but my son is up there with him now and he just called me and said the nurses brought in a chair that folds out. My son said it's comfortable, so perhaps I might get a little more sleep up there than what I have been getting. I hope he wakes up soon, they have cut back on keeping him sedated, so hopefully he will open his eyes soon. You have a good night, and thanks for stopping by.

This is a beautiful post, Crone. I love John Denver.......and when I think of his music, I think of someone who had the answers in life and was always so calm, serene and tranquil. Thanks for this beautiful post Crone! You and Shadow remain in my heart.

What great memories to share, Shadow! One of my favorite Denver songs was "Rhymes and Reasons"--that one has always been a great comfort--Thank you for the reminder of this gentle talented man!

Hi CM,
I know exactly what you mean about him, a pessimist at heart and mind. I like most of his music! I just got home about an hour ago, and freshened up. Have a good day.
